How can I improve noise reduction?

To make a wall or structure stop as much sound as possible, adding weight is one possibility.  The heavier the construction the harder sound can penetrate it. With a single-layer construction or wall, at least double the weight is needed for a noticeable result, otherwise it is better to make a floating pre-wall.

Adding weight by means of a mass mat such as Baryfol, Caldifol P or Caldifol FR is especially suitable for thin or light walls. Sometimes our soundproofing mats, such as Sonivibro, can be an alternative for sound insulation. These are made of bitumen and have a high weight.

Less noise pollution by using soundproof insulation

Choosing the best sound insulation depends on the construction, location and causes of noise. Acoustic sound insulation can be found in a variety of places: enclosures for motors and plants, in industrial machinery, compressors, generators, wall plates, heat pumps, air ducts, walls, floors, pipes.

Sound attenuation is especially useful when sound penetrates through a closed structure or wall, but much less so when this structure contains holes or openings that cannot be sealed. When a structure or wall has an opening, installing sound absorption can make a big difference in noise reduction.

Often these machines already have a shield or enclosure but are made of lightweight materials, such as steel plate, aluminum plate, plastic or wood. The disadvantage, however, is that these shields are very sensitive to sound transmission. Isopartner has more than 40 years of experience in noise control and has a solution for any noise problem.

Sound reduction through a pre-wall

Adding sufficient weight to a heavy structure such as a concrete or stone wall is a lot more difficult. Therefore, a floating additional wall is then a suitable solution. ISOPARTNER Netherlands solutions with sound insulation boards such as Baryfloor (wood), Polysonic (metal) and Sonodamp (sandwich panels).

To make the wall floating, ISOPARTNER Nederland's vibration damping solutions are well suited:

  • Vibrafon ceiling hangers: vibration damping hangers that can be installed between the structural ceiling and a free-hanging ceiling to reduce vibration and noise transmission.
  • Sylomer: a high-performance polyurethane foam (Elastomer) whose excellent elastic properties make it very suitable for suspension arrangements.
  • Sylodyn: high-quality closed-cell polyurethane foam (Elastomer) that is very suitable for springy setups due to excellent elastic properties. Sylodyn dampens horizontal, vertical and torsional vibrations.
  • Rugran: a polyurethane-bonded rubber granulate with excellent sound insulation properties, a durable and effective solution for both thermal and acoustic insulation.

Sound insulation for ceiling

Providing a ceiling with sound insulation is often done by means of a suspended (floating) ceiling. The ceiling is then suspended from vibration damping ceiling hangers from the structural floor. This is common in studios, cinemas, hotels, as well as in yachts and ships.

Improve your ceiling sound insulation with our vibration damping solutions

Our vibration damping solutions are also for this: Vibrafon, Sylomer, Sylodyn and Rugran are suitable. Do you have doubts about the right choice? Our experts are always ready with tailored advice.

Sound insulation floor

Depending on the type of floor, sound insulation is possible through padding or a floating floor. In addition to our products for ceilings mentioned above, the high-quality sandwich panels from Baryfloor and Baryfloor Light are very suitable for sound insulation of floors.

Sandwich panels with high sound insulation value

Both are constructed of multilayer waterproof glued Multiplex Okumé and have a high sound insulation value with excellent physical properties. The sandwich panels are easy to cut to size and assemble. Moreover, they are PVC-free and are highly durable with improved insulation performance.

What is sound insulation?

Sound insulation involves blocking out sound from outside (or vice versa) by damping or blocking the sound waves.

How does sound insulation work?

It soundproofs a wall, ceiling, floor or structure.

How do you install your sound insulation?

There are two main options: adding filler/weight or adding an extra (usually suspended) layer.

Sound insulation from glass wool, foam, polyester wool or rockwool?

Materials such as soft foam, polyester wool, rockwool or glass wool are often considered to be sound insulating. This is, however, not the case; these materials hardly block any noise. The purpose of these products is to absorb sound. These materials do, however, help to improve the sound insulation of partition walls if they are installed between the existing wall and the partition wall. The main ISOPARTNER Netherlands product for sound insulation with glass wool is Airisol, with rockwool it is Calroc and with polyester wool it is Acupol.
